The 36th annual Montville Field Day is set for Saturday, Aug. 11 and offers a full day of fun to benefit the town’s Volunteer Fire Department. Included will be a two-mile road race (9 a.m.) and parade (11 a.m.), followed by the traditional chicken barbecue.

The afternoon offers a wide range of children’s activities, a cake contest, a Chinese auction and the popular woodsmen events (3 p.m.). Live music will be provided by local entertainers, as well as headliner Sonny Perry & the Nashville North Band. Waterville’s Perry had a Nashville record deal in the 1990s, with a song making the independent charts. He toured as opening act for the Kentucky Headhunters and performed at the Grand Ol’ Opry. Back in Maine, he pulled together a diverse group of musicians to play old time country music of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s.
