New England Celtic Arts will present acclaimed band of sisters Ashelin Thursday, Aug. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St. Tickets will be $15 at the door; for reservations, call 948-7469.

Ashelin is a band of five sisters — Cassy, Joesie, Kaliyan, Shaelin and Thea Plamer — from Newfoundland Canada. The sisters began singing and dancing to Newfoundland and Irish music while learning to play a wide variety of instruments at a young age. Although they never expected this childhood passion for all things musical to be anything but family focused, the group soon embarked on a musical journey that is now winning them attention and fans around the world.

Known for their solo vocals and intricate harmonies, Ashelin’s brand of folk roots and pop shines through their original songwriting and novel interpretations of traditional tunes. The recently toured Ireland, followed by an extended stay at Dollywood this spring.

Built from a 100-year-old barn with attached farmhouse, the Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts is a vibrant cultural and arts centre that offers an eclectic mix of music, films, art, lectures and other various events. For more information, visit uccpa.unity.edu.
