The Town of Montville cordially invites you to our 36th annual field day Saturday, August 11. Many community volunteers work to bring this fun summer event to the town of Montville. This event benefits the Montville Volunteer Fire Department.

Our events start with a 9 a.m. two-mile road race. You may register for this race prior to the event. It starts at the intersection of Route 220 and the Center Road. This event is being sponsored in full by Sally and Joe Thornley.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to bring his or her goats, mules, horses, wagons, bikes, tractors and antique or well loved vehicles to join in the line-up. Line-up is on the Center Road at the intersection of North Ridge and Morrill Roads.

Following the parade will be some general announcements of the activities. Then the famous chicken barbeque will commence. Field day attendees have donated their signature side dishes to compliment the chicken. We always have a vast array of side dishes and desserts to choose from. We wish to express our thanks to everyone who brings a dish to share. Everyone who reads this and wants to donate to the pot luck can contact Karen York at or 382-3077.

The afternoon activities start with kids’ sack races, games and wagon rides provided by Mr. Clayton Larrabee and his fine team of horses. At the same time will be our cake judging. Anyone can enter a cake for judging. Judges are needed for this contest and you can sign up at the booth. Winners will be in two categories. Best looking entry and best tasting entry. Bring your cakes and sweet tooth’s. Prizes are awarded. To register or for more info contact Debi Stevens at 589-4760.

There will be a huge Chinese auction of over 100 items. This type of auction allows you to purchase chances to win only the items you are interested in. Local businesses and community members donate items to make this a successful auction. They have donated many great items and gift certificates. Drawings will start at about 2:30 p.m. Community members and local artists and businesses are welcome to donate items to be auctioned. Any high value items may be placed in a regular bidding auction. Again the contact for these donations is Karen York.

The Sonny Perry band has agreed to come out and play some wonderful old time country and gospel music for us. Some local musicians will be on hand to entertain us as well.

We enjoy the competition Woodsmen events at 3:00 p.m. There are many categories and age groups to enter. Sign up begins on the field before the event.

Throughout the afternoon a 50-50 raffle will be run. Any local vendors or community members who wish to set up a table to sell their wares may do so free of charge. Our field day t-shirts will be for sale, right after the announcement of the winning designer.

We also have for your enjoyment, cold soda, water and fresh homemade lemonade.

This event will be held rain or shine. We welcome all to come and enjoy the day with the great folks of Montville. Any questions can be directed to Chief John York or Karen York at 382-3077 or
