A show of sculptural basketry by Gerry Monaghan will open with a 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday art walk reception Aug. 10 at Raven’s Nest Gallery, 65 Main St. Refreshments will be served.
Monaghan is an artist who divides his time between Ithaca, N.Y. and Rockport. He has worked for more than 30 years as an artist and designer who describes his approach as Tatlin meets the Appalachian craft tradition.
“Like Rumpelstiltskin, I am creating objects of art by weaving together the ubiquitous and the ephemeral instead of straw,” he said.
Raven’s Nest gallery hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., 2 to 8 p.m. on art walk Fridays.
