“Our Sacred Earth: The Gaia Series,” a solo mixed media show by Jean Ann Pollard, will open with a 5 p.m. Friday art walk reception Aug. 17 at Maine Farmland Trust Gallery, 97 Main St.

When Pollard first walked into the Maine Farmland Trust Gallery, she said she instantly felt at home and knew it was a place she would like her paintings. It was not just another gallery, “it was a place visited by people who really care about the land and our planet-which is what I’ve been writing and painting about for years,” she said.

Pollard’s paintings have found their way into international collections at universities, biological research stations and the like. This exhibit features a collection of paintings from her Gaia Series, intended to “awaken people to the glories of, as well as the threats to, Mother Earth.” Pollard uses a variety of media including acrylic paint, and various substances that allow a certain measure of sculpting that creates a raised effect.

Maine Farmland Trust Gallery is open weekdays from 9 to 4 p.m. and evenings of Friday art walks. MFT is a statewide non-profit organization working to keep Maine’s farms farming. For more information, visit mainefarmlandtrust.org.
