On Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Belfast Free Library, nutritionist John Bagnulo MPH, Ph.D. will give a presentation on “Preventing and Reversing Diabetes.” This free talk is sponsored by the Belfast Free Library and the Belfast Co-op.

Bagnulo’s in-depth discussion about carbohydrates, sugars and their role in the development of diabetes and insulin resistance will provide clear explanations as to why some “complex” carbohydrates are not really complex at all, and how metabolic sugar is on the average American’s plate at every meal. Many are touted as natural, organic and whole grain, yet cause the same health problems as most sugars, according to Bagnulo. He says that these may be the biggest part of the problem and most people are oblivious to their role in disease. He will share why oatmeal is not the best possible breakfast, what fruits are best to eat regularly to minimize insulin resistance, how to return to a more natural way of eating and much more.

Bagnulo holds a doctorate in nutrition and food science, is a faculty member of Kripalu Healthy Living Programs, and has a private practice at 39 Main St. in downtown Belfast. For further information, visit his website at: johnbagnulo.com.
