The 2012 high school golf season began for a pair of Waldo County squads Aug. 28, which saw both Belfast and Mount View take to the road for a pair of away matches.
The Lions prevailed 8-1 in a match against Waterville, while the Mustangs fell 7-2 in a match against Leavitt of Turner.
Both Belfast and Mount View participate in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B, while Searsport, which fell in its first match to Deer Isle-Stonington Aug. 27, participates in Penobscot Valley Conference Class C.

Belfast 8 Waterville 1
At Waterville Aug. 28, the Lions roared to victory over this host Purple Panthers en route to their first win of the season. Belfast outshot Waterville with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 220 of 239. Lion Tim Sticht was the medalist, shooting a 46 for nine holes.
The individual results, with Lions listed first, were: Sticht (46) beat Will Bolduc (57); Larry Dyer (57) beat Sam Wehry (64); Alex Fritz (57) lost to Adam Barre (56); Grant Starrett (60) beat Lauren Hallenbeck (62); Logan Mitchell (61) beat C.J. Gaunce (71); and Doyle Bailey (61) beat Keaton Lahneman (64).
Leavitt 7, Mount View 2
At Turner Aug. 28, the Hornets buzzed past the Mustangs to pick up their first win of the campaign. Leavitt outshot Mount View with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 192 to 221. Leavitt’s Brian Hiscock was the medalist, shooting a 43 for nine holes.
The individual results, with Mustangs listed first, were: Erik Larrabee (44) beat Mark Hite (49); Austin Higgins (53) beat Kaleb Boulet (60); Montana Maynard (61) lost to Ryan Gosselin (50); Cay Outerbridge (64) lost to Hiscock (43), Logan Ryan (74) lost to Justin Bean (50); and Cassidy Gerrish (63) lost to Tim Langelier (53).
