Public Hearing

The City of Belfast will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, prior to its regularly scheduled City Council meeting, to discuss an application being submitted to the State of Maine CDBG program for a $200,000 Economic Development Program grant (grants to municipalities for direct business support for gap financing). The purpose of the grant application is to allow Front Street Shipyard to purchase equipment and make improvements to the former Belfast Boatyard property located at 39 and 41 Front Street, Belfast. Public comments will be solicited at this hearing and will be submitted as part of the application. All persons wishing to make comments or ask questions about the grant application are invited to attend this public hearing. •Request by Mary Weaver to close Church Street between Miller and Beaver and host a parade for the annual Church Street Festival on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

•Request by the Maine Celtic Celebration to use the Belfast Boathouse, Steamboat Landing and the Belfast Common on July 19, 20 and 21 of 2013 as well as permission for a road race and street closings.

•Consideration of a recommendation from the Cemetery Board of Trustees to offer the newly restored Cemetery Chapel for services at a rental fee of $150.

•Consideration of a request from the Economic Development Director for the authority to apply for a Community Development Block Grant on behalf of the Front Street Shipyard.

•Consideration of a request from the Planning Department for authorization to apply for the Coastal Communities Grant to support the development of flexible Shoreland Zoning for Belfast properties.

•Consideration of the new Mil Rates for the City of Belfast set at 19.8.

•A request from Waldo County Budget Committee for the council to vote on a budget member from the Town of Lincolnville.

•Request for council to approve the warrant for the next election.

•Update from Police Chief McFadden on video surveillance options.

•Update on possible tax increment financing options for the future.

•Accept and award bid for the Front Street/Miller Streets sewer improvements.

•Signing of council orders and housekeeping items.
