Medomak Valley High School hosted its one cross-country meet of the fall on Friday afternoon, Sept. 14, and two visiting teams and runners grabbed the spotlight.

The Camden Hills girls and Erskine Academy of South China boys earned team victories, while Camden Hills' Ben Trapani (18:08) and Lawrence's Erzsebet Nagy (20:36.42) were the individual winners.

It was the third straight win for Trapani and the Camden Hills girls to start the season. Additionally, Windjammer Brittany Bowman, the defending state Class B champion, was bested for the first time this fall, losing to Nagy by three seconds.

Trapani outran runner-up Nick Smelcer of Lincoln Academy (19:13.26) and the field by a whopping 1:05.

The course, in and around Neil Lash Nature Trail near MVHS and Medomak Middle School, was 3.36 miles.

The girls team scores were: Camden Hills 20, Lawrence of Fairfield 67, Belfast 76, Medomak Valley 96, Erskine Academy 105 and Oceanside, Lincoln Academy and Richmond no score.

Camden Hills' total seven-runner time was 1:50:53.94, with an average runner time of 22:10.79.

The boys team scores were: Erskine Academy 52, Lincoln Academy 54, Camden Hills 77, Medomak Valley 95, Belfast 118, Oceanside 141 and Richmond 176.

Erskine Academy's total time was 1:45:07.46, with an average runner time of 21:01.50.
