A celebration with kirtan chanting, music, stories and sharing is planned for Sunday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Belfast Yoga Studio in the Belfast Center, 9 Field St., Suite 302. Kirtan is open chanting that is easy for anyone to participate and leads to joyous feelings. The celebration is free and open to the public.

After receiving her yoga certification more than 20 years ago, Belfast resident Marianna Moll asked her teacher his advice on making a living teaching yoga in a small community. He said she should move to New York City. Instead, Moll, a native of Germany, stayed in Belfast and opened her own studio in the old red-and-white shoe factory that overlooks Belfast Harbor, now called Belfast Center.

“I love Belfast and I was determined to make it here, and now I want to celebrate by inviting every one for a special evening at the studio,” she said.

John Yasenchak will lead the celebration with kirtan chanting. Yasenchak is on the faculty of Husson University and has led chanting groups for several years.

“John has been a student and friend of Belfast Yoga Studio since its beginning days and will be gifting the Belfast community with his music,” said Moll.

The kirtan is free and open to all students, former students or anyone curious about the studio, yoga or kirtan. Participants may bring a healthy snack or dessert for sharing afterwards.
