On Thursday, Sept. 27, Perimeter Gallery will open "Home Field," a show of new work by Belfast artist Ben Potter. There will be an reception that evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the gallery, located within Chase’s Daily, 96 Main St.

The work in "Home Field" stems from recurrent forms and patterns in the local landscape and people who live nearby. Potter said he is interested in the “oscillation between representation and abstraction,” as well as the connotations of specific materials and how they complicate a piece.

Originally from Tennessee, Potter received a BA in Biology and Fine Art from Williams College and an MFA from California College of the Arts. He is a professor of art at Unity College, as well as the director of the college's Leonard Craig Gallery. Potter has received several grants and fellowships, including a 2012 Good Idea Grant from the Maine Arts Commission in support of this show. He has exhibited nationally and is included in the 17 artists selected for the upcoming biennial exhibition at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport.

"Home Field" will run through Nov. 25. Perimeter Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 338-0555.
