Last March, employees at Waldo County General Hospital collected 238 jars of peanut butter, 159 jars of jam and seven jars of fluff to help Bangor Savings Bank with its peanut butter and jelly drive for local food pantries.

During October, Bangor Savings Bank is going to help the hospital collect items for the newly formed Soap Closet. With the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to be clean and healthy, hospital staff will be asked to donate toothpaste, tooth brushes, hairbrushes, deodorant, soap, combs, hair accessories and other items that help people with good hygiene. The hope is that everyone will have the opportunity to feel good when they go to school or work.

The items will then be donated to the local Soap Closet, who will deliver them to local food pantries, schools and other agencies that help people in need. The goal of the Soap Closet is to provide items that help adults and their children be clean and healthy. Most food pantries are only able to provide food, and food stamps do not cover many items needed for good hygiene and cleanliness.
