River Arts invites the public to its “Artists' Choice" exhibition opening and reception Friday, Oct. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition, which will run through Nov. 15, will display works by more than 60 Maine artists — many from the Midcoast — in a wide variety of media including paintings, pastels, sculpture, photography and assemblages.

Juror for this exhibition is Leonard Meiselman, a graduate of Cooper Union and the City College of New York who received additional training in art at the Skowhegan School of Art and the Cranbrook Academy in Michigan. He has given solo exhibitions in London and New York; his paintings have also been shown in group shows in New York and Italy. After living and painting in Italy for 17 years, he returned to the United States and established a studio in New York City. He recently moved to Wiscasset.

Midcoast artists whose work appears in the exhibition include Christopher Noyes of Brooks; Larry Kinney and Joan Siem of Camden; Pat Ryan of Cushing; Pam Cabanas and Elaine Niemi of Friendship; Jack Kennedy of Lincolnville Center; Kay Sullivan of Palermo; Jeanette Phillipps and Michael Donnelly of Rockland; Laura Freeman of Rockport; Sandy Cirillo of Searsport; Roberta Baumann of South Thomaston; Katharine Cartwright of Sprucehead; William Landmesser of Stockton Springs; Victoria Pittman of Tenants Harbor; Carolyn Whitaker of Thomaston; Ralph Bush, Sherry Dec, Judith Mitchell and Richard Horton of Waldoboro; and Kate Chandler of Warren.

“Artists' Choice" is presented at River Arts’ main gallery at 170 Main St./Business Route 1. The downtown gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. River Arts holds approximately 10 juried shows each year that are open to any artist who would like to enter.
