Richardson’s Civil War Roundtable has published its third calendar in a series that commemorates the 150th anniversaries of the Civil War. This year’s calendar covers events of the year 1863, which includes the famous Battle of Gettysburg. Featured on the front are photos of Joshua Chamberlain and Ellis Spear beside a photo of Little Round Top. The calendar contains information on Maine soldiers and nurses who were involved in the war during that year. Also included are dates of important battles and other occurrences that affected the country.

The Roundtable’s goal is to educate people on the war by examining battles and studying what happened to Maine communities and our country during the days of war and unrest. A second goal is to support preservation of battlefields and artifacts of that period. Using money earned from book and calendar sales, the group has been able to contribute to the Civil War Preservation Trust twice this past year: to the Belfast Historical Society for the restoration of the recently acquired Civil War soldier’s quilt, made in Belfast, and a donation for the preservation of the Daniel Lady Farm in Gettysburg, Pa.

The RCW Roundtable meets every first Wednesday from March through December at 7 p.m. in the VFW Hall in Stockton Springs. Anyone interested in Civil War history is welcome to attend the programs, whether a Civil War “buff” or a newly enthused novice. There are no dues. For more information, call 338-2476.

Calendars may be purchased at Left Bank Books in Belfast.
