After dropping its first games of the regular season Dec. 7, the Mount View boys and girls basketball teams were no worse for the wear on Tuesday night, Dec. 11 in their games against Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield, with both squads still in search of their first wins of the season.

Both Mustang squads emerged victorious over the Huskies, with the boys posting a 37-29 win in Thorndike and the girls a 44-38 victory in Pittsfield.

Mount View boys 37, Maine Central Institute 29

At Thorndike Dec. 11, the Mustangs (1-1) slowly pulled away from the visiting Huskies (0-2) in the second half and picked up their first win of the season. The two teams were knotted 3-3 after the first eight minutes and 12-12 at halftime, while Mount View took a 22-19 lead after three quarters.

Steven Davis netted 11 points for the winners, while Nathan Wren and Brody Gibbs each added nine; Jack Simpson, five; and Kenny McGray, three.

For MCI, Jerry Chen and Kale McCarthy each scored six points, while Chris Bordeau added five; Price Li, four; Peter Peterson, three; and Kamerin Alspaugh and Mitchell Hallee, both two.

The 'Stangs were 14-of-35 (40 percent) from the foul line, while the Huskies were 0-of-4.

Mount View girls 44, Maine Central Institute 38

At Pittsfield Dec. 11, the Mustangs (1-1) picked up their first win of the season in a road triumph over the Huskies (0-2). Mount View led 14-4, 21-14 and 28-24 at the quarter breaks

Janelle Thornley led Mount View with a 16-point effort, while Brooke Tripp added 11 in the win. Also scoring for the 'Stangs were Dinah Bilodeau with six points, while Courtney Morse tossed in five; Alexis Morse, four; and Megan Elkins, two.

For MCI, Ashley Alton scored 14 points, while Brianna Losee added nine; Hannah Emery, six; Katie Cronkite, five; and Mat Smedbergand Cassie Miller, both two.

The 'Stangs were 7-of-20 (35 percent) from the foul line, while the Huskies were 10-of-22 (45 percent).
