The following is a synopsis of the 2012-13 Searsport District High School boys varsity basketball team:

Coach/years coached current team: Brad Cook, fifth year

Last year's record/playoff information: 4-14, 14th in Eastern Class C. The Vikings did not qualify for the playoffs.

Roster: Seniors Jake Kenniston (guard), Dylan Sieber (guard), Buddy Ellis (guard), Austin Bean (center), Dillan Moody (forward), Alex Carroll (forward) and Dylan Seidl (center); sophomores Jay Burkard (guard/forward) and Jacob Powell (guard/forward); and freshmen Troy Reynolds (guard/forward) and Bryce Shorey (guard/forward).

Outlook: It has been 26 years since the Vikings qualified to play in the Eastern Class C tournament at the Bangor Auditorium, but Cook's team could be making a push for a return to "The Mecca" this season, led by a talented array of seven seniors. Ellis, Moody and Bean are the team's captains.

Bean, Moody and Powell figure to be forces in the front court for Searsport, while Ellis will run the point. Sieber, who transferred from Bucksport, also is a terrific perimeter shooter and could add a new facet to the Viking offense.

"We will be competitive every game," said Cook. "As always, we face a tough [Penobscot Valley Conference] schedule. We are looking forward to the challenge. Our goal is to qualify for the postseason. I have full confidence in this group."

The veteran coach said this year's team is the deepest and quickest in his five years with the program, which should allow the Vikings to implement different strategies throughout the season.

Searsport last competed in a playoff game at the Bangor Auditorium in 1986, while the team's last preliminary playoff game, which was not played at the Bangor Auditorium, came in 2004.
