After having regular-season matches postponed Dec. 12, Belfast wrestlers were back on the mat Saturday, Dec. 15 in the McDonald's Mountain Valley Invitational Tournament at  Mountain Valley High School.

When the dust had settled on the talent-laden event, the Lions had student-athletes who finished first, second and third in their respective weight classes.

BAHS' Brent Waterman placed first at 138 pounds, Peter Kelley second at 220 and Dagan Berenyi third at 132.

The team scores were: Noble of Berwick 148, Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft 115, Dirigo of Dixfield 113, Fryeburg Academy 77.5, Mountain Valley of Rumford 64.5, Oxford Hills of South Paris 61.5, Lisbon of Lisbon Falls 58, Belfast 52.5, Mount Ararat of Topsham 50, Brewer 44, Winslow 42, Madison 36, Lincoln Academy of Newcastle 35.5, Brunswick 22.5, Bucksport 14, Oak Hill of Sabattus 11, Edward Little of Auburn 3 and Orono 3.

The individual Belfast results were:

126 pounds — Alec Young lost by major decision to Jon Hankey, OxH, 12-0; and was pinned by Emory Hudson, MtA, at 0:20.

132 pounds — Berenyi was pinned by Reilley Lombardi, Dir, at 1:05; beat Dakota Jacques, MtVal, 4-1; won by forfeit over Mark Smith, Brew; and beat Lombardi, Dir, 4-2, in the consolation final. Berenyi finished third.

138 pounds — Waterman won by technical fall over Gage Plenniger, Fox, 16-0; won by technical fall over Ryan Buzzell, Frye, 20-5; and won by technical fall over Anthony Sprigg, Brew, 19-4, in the championship final. Waterman finished first.

152 pounds — Walker Roberts was pinned by Wesley Stinson, Fox, at 1:11; and was pinned by Isaac Arabadjis, Oro, at 2:42.

170 pounds — Austin Sprague was pinned by Jared Jensen, Bruns, at 0:46; beat Dakota Appleby, Bucks, 9-6; and lost by technical fall over Colin HIggins, LA, 19-4.

195 pounds — Marlin Hansen was pinned by Zack Cross, MtVal, at 1:30; and was pinned by Luacs MacDonald, Dir, at 2:18.

220 pounds — Kelley pinned Corey Lonbard, Mad, at 0:29; pinned Zack White, Dir, at 3:35; and lost to Victor Irwin, Brew, 6-4, in the championship final. Kelley finished second.
