Baking Establishment

H.R. Sargent continues to carry on the baking business at his old stand in the brick building near the foot of Main street. Bread of excellent quality and of all kinds always on hand; families constantly supplied with Bread, Pies, Cakes, etc. Pilot and Ship Bread, for ship use, put up ready for voyages.

Steamer Notes

The Penobscot arrived from Boston Tuesday morning at 7:20 o'clock, making one of the quickest trips of the season… With the close of the year the Penobscot and Lewiston will go into winter quarters and the Katahdin will come on the route alone. The winter arrangement of trips is published in our advertising columns.

"An extensive lumbering operation is being carried on at the Carver farm. Capt. Ernest Wheatley has been put in charge of the chopping. A portable sawmill has been set up by Nathaniel Kingsbury and a crew of men are at work."

YMCA Lists New Year Activities

The Waldo County YMCA starts off the New Year on Tuesday, Jan. 3, with a series of Belly dancing classes to be taught by Anna Grover of Monroe, at the Governor Anderson School.

PeeWee basketball games will begin Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Belfast Area High School. The YMCA staff reports that over 200 boys and girls from grades three to seven make up the 16 teams who will participate.

“Matt Love, son of Matthew and Valerie Love of Frankfort and Gretchen Miller, daughter of Thomas and Rebecca Miller of Belfast, have been selected Good Citizens by the Penobscot Chapter of the DAR. Love is a student at Searsport District High School and Miller represents Belfast Area High School.”
