The Mount View wrestling team participated in the Nokomis Warrior Clash tournament Saturday, Jan. 5 at Nokomis High School, as the Mustangs squared off against 16 other teams to kick off the new year.

The Mustangs mustered a 13th-place finish, amassing 30 points, while Class A Skowhegan (175 points) emerged victorious in the tournament with six first-place finishes, one second-place finish and two third-place finishes.

Mount View earned a third-place finish from Job Mesaric in the 220-pound weight class and a fourth-place effort from James Blanchette in the 120-pound weight class.

The team scores were: Skowhegan "A", 175; Dirigo of Dixfield, 155; Mount Blue of Thorndike, 91; Oxford Hills of South China, 82.5; Wells, 69; Madison, 67; Nokomis, 65.5; Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield, 46; Westbrook, 44; Monmouth Academy, 43.5; Windham, 33; Mount View, 30; Greely of Cumberland, 21; Edward Little of Auburn, 4; and Gorham, Gray-New Gloucester and Skowhegan "B", no score.

The individual Mount View results, with Mustangs listed first, were:

120 pounds — Blanchette pinned Gus Brown, Dir, at 0:59; lost to Dylan Dahlbergh, MCI, 8-4; pinned Teran Booth, Nok, at 4:44; and was pinned by Danny Read, MtB, at 2:50 in the consolation final. Blanchette finished fourth.

138 pounds — Matt Wheeler lost by major decision to James Gambino, Mon, 11-0; and lost to Doninick Cancelarich, Wind, 11-6.

145 pounds — Anthony Barnard was pinned by Dalton Mauro, Wind, at 5:37.

152 pounds — Scott Vaillancourt was pinned by Abraham Eaton, Gor, at 5:38.

220 pounds — Mesaric pinned Justin McGuire, Skow, at 2:43; was pinned by Zach White, Dir, at 4:48; pinned Brandon Mitchell, Wind, at 2:02; and pinned Paul Harris, Mon, at 4:48 in the championship final. Mesaric finished third.

285 pounds — Devan Fuller was pinned by Jake Hodgkins, Wind, at 5:16; pinned William Gunter, MtB, at 0:24; and lost to Jacob Nichols, Nok, 4-3.
