Durwood J. Crosby, 86 of Brooks, passed away Dec. 30, 2012, in Augusta. He was born in Exeter Dec. 14, 1926, to Leon and Fern (Nickerson) Crosby.

He was a U.S. Navy Seaman aboard the destroyer USS Gyatt. He worked for Pratt & Whitney in Wallingford, Conn. He also worked for a poultry farmer in Connecticut. After returning to Maine, he and his wife eventually took over his father’s farm, where they raised broilers. Durwood also worked at the tank farm in Searsport and drove a school bus before he found his niche as a carpenter. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and landscaping.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Emogene B. Crosby; two younger brothers; two stepbrothers and two stepsisters.

Durwood is survived by his daughter, Carolyn L. Shute, of Brooks; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; twin great-granddaughters; four sisters, two brothers; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
