The Searsport boys and girls basketball squads were in action Saturday, Jan. 12 as each hosted Stearns of Millinocket.

The Viking boys and girls were downed in the doubleheader, with the Searsport boys falling 71-52 and the Searsport girls dropping a 53-26 decision.

At Searsport Jan. 11, the Vikings let the game get away from them at the half as the Minutemen surged to their sixth straight win. Stearns led 20-9, 39-17 and 54-35 at the quarter breaks.

Dylan Sieber tossed in 18 points for the Vikings, while Buddy Ellis and Austin Moody each added seven; Troy Reynolds, six; Austin Bean, four; Jake Keniston and Bryce Shorey, both three; and Jake Powell and Dylan Seidl, both two.

For the Minutemen, Riley Whitney netted 24 points, while Kyle McVey added 19; Mark Morneault and Lucas McLaine, both 12; and Kacey McVey, both four.

Searsport shot 45 percent from the foul line, while Stearns finished at 35 percent.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class C, Searsport (3-4, 8.0247 points) is 12th, while Houlton (10-0, 45.8333 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs.
