Michael Harold Merithew, 50, died unexpectedly Jan. 11, 2013, with his loving family by his side at a Bangor Hospital. He was born Jan. 24, 1963, a son of Harold and Catherine (Trodden) Merithew.

Michael graduated from Searsport High School in 1981 and attended EMVTI welding program. Michael loved spending time with his children. He was outgoing, sociable and friendly. He enjoyed being outside, whether cutting wood, walking the Back Bay in Portland, Cascade Park in Bangor or Schoodic Point in Acadia. He also enjoyed spending time on the computer, especially playing spider solitaire, and he had a great love of animals.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Ashley (Varney) Merithew; his children, Jarrett Snowman, Amethyst Merithew, Brooklyn Merithew, Josyln Merithew, and stepsons Hal and Jeremy Dunken; his siblings, Sean Merithew and wife Linda, Colleen Wiley and partner Keith Ashey, Patrick Merithew and wife Theresa; grandparents-in-law Charles and Helene Saindon; mother-in-law Jennifer Varney; sisters-in-law Brittany Varney, Courtney Varney and Katelin Varney; nieces Brianne Lindelof, Brooke Lindelof, Chelsea Merithew, Crystal Peak and Natasha Cahill; nephew Aaron Wiley; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as many friends.

In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by a son, Michael Merithew II, and a grandmother-in-law, Edna Saindon.

Family and friends will gather for visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 26, at Young Funeral Home, 31 W. Main St., Searsport. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund to benefit Amethyst, Brooklyn and Joslyn Merithew has been set up at: Maine Savings, 101 Western Ave., P.O. Box 347, Hampden, ME 04444.
