The father of a 25-year-old Jackson man who is charged with killing a Florida firefighter in what police characterized as a drug deal gone wrong was indicted on drug charges this week.

A Waldo County grand jury indicted Gary L. Porter, 56, on charges of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs based on charges the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency levied against the Jackson man Oct. 16, 2012.

Waldo County Deputy District Attorney Eric Walker confirmed that Porter is the father of Daniel Porter, who is scheduled to go on trial for the shooting death of 31-year-old Jerry Perdomo Monday, April 1. According to Journal archives, police located Perdomo's body in the woods off Dahlia Farm Road in Newburgh Feb. 29, 2012, and Porter was arrested Feb. 28 at his father's Hadley Mill Road residence following a police investigation into Perdomo's disappearance.

Court records show Gary Porter is currently free on personal recognizance bail with conditions that he refrain from using or possessing illegal drugs and that he submit to random searches and testing for the same.

According to court documents, Gary Porter allegedly had more than a pound of marijuana in his possession and sold in excess of that amount Oct. 16, 2012.

Gary Porter is scheduled for arraignment on the charges Thursday, April 25, at 8:30 a.m. at Waldo County Superior Court in Belfast.
