The state Class B indoor track championships are set for Monday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. at Bates College, with several Midcoast qualifiers looking to win individual titles.

Athletes from the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference — such as those from Belfast, Oceanside, Medomak Valley, Camden Hills and Mount View of Thorndike — find themselves at a disadvantage as the league meet was canceled due to last weekend's blizzard and the meet was not made up.

So, not only did the local athletes not get the opportunity to vie for league titles, they also lost another chance to qualify for the states in their events and missed another chance to compete at a high level.

Thus, local athletes have not competed in a meet for several weeks.

Despite all that, a bundle area student-athletes qualified for the state meet by virtue of their top-tier times, distances and heights during the regular season.

The following is a list of area state qualifiers:

Oceanside — Abby Hersom (two miles), Jackie Thorbjornson (mile) and Payton Billingsley (800 meters).

Camden Hills — Melissa Kessel (55-meter hurdles), Emily Lopez (high jump) and Ben Trapani (mile and two miles).

Medomak Valley — Nicole Nicholls (high jump)

Mount View — Lorenzo Milani (55 meters, 200 meters).

Belfast — Kelsey Grass (800 meters, 4×200-meter relay), Cassidy Hill (200 meters, 4×200-meter relay, 55 meters), Allie Njaa (high jump, 4×200-meter relay), Kristine Mehuren (4×200-meter relay), Owen Falvey (high jump), Jordan Hill (400 meters, 4×200-meter relay), Jake Levangie (high jump, 400 meters, 4×200-meter relay), Drew Nealey (pole vault, high jump, 4×200 meter relay), Travis Tufo (200 meters, 4×200-meter relay), Emery Dinsmore (4×800-meter relay), Ethan Merrifield (4×800-meter relay), Hendrik Andrews (4×800-meter relay) and Aiden Ripley (4×800-meter relay).
