An 18-year-old Winterport man was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 13, on three counts of gross sexual assault after a police investigation revealed he allegedly committed sex acts on an eight-year-old boy late last year.

Thomas Emery, 18, of Winterport was arrested on those charges in Bangor last Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., according to the arrest record at the Waldo County Sheriff's Office.

Detective Jason Bosco with the Waldo County Sheriff's Office investigated the initial complaint, which he said came from a teacher at the child's school.

"The victim disclosed it to a teacher, and then the teacher made the referral," said Bosco.

Bosco said the incidents allegedly occurred in Winterport Nov. 24, 2012, and on two more occasions in mid-December and late December.

Bosco said Emery was a friend of the boy's family.

Bosco said when he interviewed Emery about the allegations Emery was cooperative and confessed to committing the crimes against the child. Bosco added Emery has no prior history of committing similar crimes.

Emery is scheduled to appear at Waldo County Superior Court in Belfast Thursday, March 28.
