Selma M.”Sam” French, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 14, at her home. She was born April 13, 1934, in Monroe, the daughter of Charles and Velma (Clements) French. Selma was an Avon Representative for many years. She retired early to care for her mother until her death.

Selma was very devoted to family. She had a great love of animals — her cats and Mr. Goose — she loved to grow flowers and frequented yard sales. Selma is survived by three sisters Arlene Johnson of Bingham, Joyce Dean of Bucksport and Gay Corey and husband Robert of Kentucky; two brothers Clayton French and wife Joanne of Arkansas and Gerald French and wife Pheobe of Searsport. She is also survived by special friends Harold and Linda McKenney, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Selma was predeceased by her parents and two sisters Fern and Virginia.

Graveside services will be held in the spring at Mount Recluse Cemetery, Cape Jellison. In keeping with Selma’s love of animals, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to an animal shelter of one’s choice. Arrangements by Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main Street, Searsport.
