The annual "Lucky Leprechaun" 5-kilometer road race will be Sunday, March 17 at Trackside Station on Pleasant Street. Walkers will begin at 9:45 a.m. and runners at 10:10 a.m.

On-line registration is available at active.com/5K-race/rockland-me/5th-annual-lucky-leprechaun-5k-2013-wm590.

It is the third road race/walk of the 2013 season hosted by a group of local runners. The host sponsor for the event is Trackside Station. The race benefits Go! Malawi, whose website can be found at: go-Malawi.org.

The group's "Set the Pace" 5K Jan. 1 attracted 99 runners and walkers and was a positive way to kick off 2013 as “the year of good fitness," said race director Reade Brower.

The "Lucky Leprechaun" 5K race course is fast, with the final mile hugging the ocean coastline. The event includes walkers and runners of all abilities.

"A great way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is to walk or run dressed in your green costume," Brower said.

Race registration will take place on March 17 beginning at 9 a.m. at Trackside Station, 4 Union Street, Rockland. Walkers, people with children in strollers and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Go! Malawi runner Brower will host the event, along with other Go! Malawi runners Russ Wolfertz, Andrew Bonarrigo and Troy Peasley, who will all be on hand to either run with or cheer on participants.

Brower said this is the third race of the group's five Midcoast race series, with the next being the Peter Ott’s 10-kilometer race on Sunday, June 2 in Camden.

Preregistration for the "Lucky Leprechaun" is $15 for singles, $35 for a family of three and $10 for each additional family member. Teams of six or more are eligible for $10 per participant donation. Sign up a team until March 13 by emailing reade@freepressonline.com.

Day of race registration also will be available at $18 single and $40 family rate (plus $10 for extra family members). For more race information, contact Brower at 207-691-3510 or by email at reade@freepressonline.com.

All checks are tax deductible and should be made payable to: “Go Malawi.” To preregister mail or drop off "Lucky Leprechaun" 5K, c/o Reade Brower, Free Press, 8 North Street No. 301, Rockland, ME 04841.
