Residents will have to wait a bit longer before the winner of a two-way race for one open seat on the Board of Selectmen can be confirmed.

Town Manager James Gillway said the voting results from the municipal election held Tuesday, March 5, for the open seat on the board between Meredith Ares and Travis Otis had Ares winning by two votes. The margin was 156-154.

Gillway said because of the close nature of the outcome, the town will entertain a request for a ballot inspection and recount. That procedure has since been scheduled for Thursday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Union Hall, and it is a public meeting, Gillway said.

The law requires the town to schedule the ballot inspection and recount within five days of the initial request, Gillway said.
