Fire departments from five towns responded to a two-story garage fire in Liberty Monday, March 25.

Liberty Fire Chief Bill Gillespie said the garage fire was reported at 7:50 a.m. on Pinnacle Road. When crews arrived, the one-car garage was completely engulfed in flames, Gillespie said.

Damage to the garage, which was not attached to the home, was so extensive that firefighters had to knock the building down, Gillespie said. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and Gillespie said he believed it started in the area near the woodstove in the building.

“The roof had collapsed into the building,” he said.

No on was injured in the fire, Gillespie said.

Crews from Montville, Palermo, Searsmont and Washington assisted at the scene, Gillespie said.
