A Belfast man was arrested Monday, April 1, and charged in connection with a residential burglary that occurred earlier in the day.

Police arrested Jeffrey Butler, 29, of Belfast and charged him with burglary and theft, Belfast Police Chief Mike McFadden said. The burglary was reported at 7:45 a.m. after the owners of a Pearl Street residence arrived home to discover several items missing, McFadden said.

Officers Brian Lunt, Mike Rolerson and Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham responded to the call and were able to develop Butler as a suspect, McFadden said. They then tracked Butler to a friend’s home where they found items that were taken from the Pearl Street residence on his person.

McFadden declined to comment on what items were taken from the Pearl Street home.

The officers also found items from another burglary that had not yet been reported, McFadden said.

Butler is being held at the Waldo County Jail.
