TSgt. Philip W. Cunningham, Ret., 81, passed away March 22, 2013, at his winter home in Zephryhills, Fla. He was born in Belfast Dec. 20, 1931 to James and Edith Cunningham.

Phil was a wonderful husband, dad, grampi, father-in-law and friend to so many. He coached Little league and was a Boy Scout leader. his love for ham radio was foremost in his life. He had made contacts all over the world.

Phil was also a dear friend for more than 36 years to Bill W. He will be missed by his many friends.

Phil joined the Air Force in 1950 and spent the next 20 years in the military. He and his wife, Hope, traveled many miles and raised their family. after retirement, he went to work at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He retired form there in 1986 and he and Hope bought a motor home and traveled the next 10 years around the entire U.S. They then retired as snow birds to Zephyrhills, Fla. But when Phil knew the snow was gone, he had to head to "home," in Waldo.

Phil is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hope; daughter Catherine and her husband, Len Reno, and their two children, Robert and Kasey, of Yarmouthport, Mass.; son Robert and his wife, Louise Cunningham, and their children, Luke and Catherine, of Veazie; son Gregory Cunningham of Newburg; son Peter and his wife, Pam Cunningham, and their children Jacob and Henry, of Hampden; daughter Julie and her husband, Joe Cyr, and their daughter, Jessica, and husband Nick Stasulas and daughter Harper Monroe of Farmingdale, and Julie and Joe's son, Corey, and wife Ashley Cyr of Waldo. also he leaves a grandson, Joshua Cunningham, of Belfast.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, a sister, and a son, Anthony.

Phil was also a life member of Norman N. Dow VFW Post, Bangor, and a member of the American Legion of Brooks and the DAV of Maine.

A gathering for friends and family will be held on April 27 from 1-4 p.m. at the Waldo Town hall on route 131. Burial will be this summer in Augusta.
