The following is a synopsis of the 2013 Searsport District High School track-and-field team:

Coach/years coached current team: Mike Vasiliauskas, 25th year.

Last year's record/playoff information: The Vikings did not score as a team in either the Penobscot Valley Conference Small School Championships or the state Class C championships.

Roster: The boys include seniors Jacob Butman (shot put, discus), Austin Bean (discus), Chas Evans (shot put) and Darren Harriman (sprints); juniors Noah Sylvester (400, 100) and Julian Cross (shot put, discus); sophomore Logan Staples (100 meter, triple jump); and freshman Orion Sylvester (running).

The girls include juniors Arianna Tang (discus) and Alicen Brooks (discus, shot put, middle distance); sophomores Emily Tripp (100, triple jump), Katlyn Robinson (discus), Alyssa Burkard (javelin, discus, sprints) and Olivia Cross (javelin, sprints); and freshman Cheyenne Jones (middle distance).

Outlook: With eight athletes on the boys team and seven on the girls squad, the Vikings likely will have trouble competing team-wise in regular-season meets. However, Vasiliauskas said he has a few athletes on the cusp of qualifying for the state meet, such as Bucklin and Bean in the discus, along with Tripp, who won the 100-meter championship in the Penobscot Valley Conference jayvee championships.

"Each year we have two main individual goals," he said. "One is to improve each meet; the other is for those close to qualifying for the state meet [to do so]."
