The following is a synopsis of the 2013 Mount View High School outdoor track-and-field team:

Coach/years coached current team: Kevin "Gus" Petrak, eighth year.

Last year's record/playoff information: The Mustang boys were 15th (12 points) in the state Class B championships and ninth (31 points) in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championships. The Mustang girls were 14th (12 points) at the KVAC Class B championships.

Roster: The boys include seniors Owen Freeman (throws), Devan Fuller (throws), Jake Jones (distance), Noah LaForge (sprints) and Lorenzo Milani (sprints); juniors Andrew Cloutier (racewalk), Kevin Davidson, Harry Dyer (throws), Silas Fox (distance) Logan Ryan (throws, sprints) and Scott Vaillancourt; sophomores Chris Cole (throws), Steven Davis, Bryce Hubbard (sprints, jumps) and Nicholas Troutman; and freshmen Dan Farley, Ethan Sewell-Berry (throws) and Chandler Wilson.

The girls include seniors Masha Faulkner (distance), Kyrstyn Keating (distance), Kaytlyn Porter (sprints, racewalk) and Mikeala Risch (throws, sprints); juniors Madeline Blake (sprints), Morgan Clifford (distance), Hailey Davis (jumps), Brandy Foster (sprints), Braley Leadbetter (sprints), Megan Muther (sprints), Erin Siladi (sprints, hurdles), Stephanie Stilkey (distance) and Alexis Strain (sprints); and freshmen Liz Clifford, Risa Fox, Cassidy Gerrish, Jordan King, Jenni Nadeau, Meredith Picard, Lilly Redwine and Kate West.

Outlook: A strong mixture of experience and youth likely will bode well for the Mustangs this season.

"I have some talented seniors who are leading this group well and I hope that the younger athletes will pick up on some good habits," said Petrak. "We also have a nice group of first-year athletes. Last year we did not get many, so it's nice to see the interest increase for upcoming classes."

Petrak said Waterville, Winslow and Belfast will be among the KVAC elite based on their numbers of student-athletes. While Mount View, as a team, will not be able to compete with the teams with many student-athletes, Petrak said the Mustangs should "defeat teams of similar size."
