The Searsport baseball team hoped to get off on the right foot to begin the 2013 spring campaign, but powerful, visiting Bucksport had other ideas Monday afternoon, April 15, and the Vikings suffered a 23-1, 5-inning loss.

For the host Vikings, Buddy Ellis (2 singles), Kyle Moore (single), Zach Beaudry (2 singles) and Troy Reynolds (single) keyed the offense.

For Bucksport, Josh Gray had two hits and four RBIs, while Ryan Grindle added two hits and three RBIs.

Gabe Stearns earned the win on the mound by tossing three innings and allowing one run.

Ellis scored the lone Viking run via a sacrifice fly by Jacob Powell in the first inning.

Darren Harriman worked one inning on the mound for the hosts, while Matt Coffin went two innings, James Harvey one inning and Powell one inning. The trio combined to allow 11 hits, nine walks, six hit batters and nine strikeouts.

"It looked like it was going to be a good day," said SDHS coach John Frye, in reference to the fact the hosts were ahead 1-0 in the first inning and had the bases loaded with no outs. However, the Golden Bucks took control from that point.

Searsport finished with five hits and seven errors and Bucksport 10 hits and one error. The Bucks scored 12 runs in the second inning.
