The following is a synopsis of the 2013 Mount View High School baseball team:

Coach/years coached current team: Chris Hink, third year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 4-12, 17th in Eastern Class B. The Mustangs did not qualify for the playoffs.

Roster: Seniors Kyle Turner (first base), Ricky Moulton (catcher), Ethan Harding (second base, outfield) and Josh Savoy (outfield); juniors Kenny McGray (pitcher, infield), Erik Larrabee (outfield) and Bryan Jungels (pitcher, infield); sophomores Nate Wren (shortstop, pitcher), David Clark (infield, catcher), Ashton Reynolds (pitcher, infield, outfield) and Nate Lord (pitcher, infield); and freshmen Mikey Hustus (pitcher, catcher, outfield, infield), Jack Axsom (infield) and Cole Hannah (pitcher, infield, outfield).

Outlook: Last year was a tough one record-wise for the Mustangs, but the Thorndike-based squad returns an impressive infield this season, including McGray, who is pitching his third season at the varsity level.

"[We are] looking forward to a fun season, where the focus is on baseball, understanding how the game is played, and going out every day with the expectation to execute what it takes to win games," said Hink.

Turner started the final three games of the regular season last year at first base and impressed at the position in the stead of Adam Higgins, a second-team all-conference selection who graduated in June.

The third-year coach added his team is inexperienced in the outfield and will have to get on track quickly to keep pace with the talented Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B division. Hink expects Maranacook of Readfield, Winslow, Camden Hills and Nokomis of Newport to be among the league's top teams.

As far as Mount View's expectations? The Mustangs plan to take it one day at a time.

"We expect to play hard and compete in every game this year," said Hink. "Getting to .500 would be a great accomplishment for our program."
