The Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A and B schoolgirl shootout took place Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Rockland Golf Club, a scenario that proved good news for the five participating golfers.

All five girls — including Mount View's Cassidy Gerrish — qualified for their respective individual schoolgirl championships, which will be on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro.

Gerrish, a sophomore for Class B Mount View, shot 109 on the 18-hole course, narrowly making the cut of 110 to qualify.

Gerrish will join several others from around the state at the event, including fellow Waldo County golfer Rica Warren of Searsport, who qualified for the Class C individual schoolgirl championship at the Penobscot Valley Conference championship and state qualifier Sept. 26.

Mount View coach Craig Tozier said Gerrish is “the first female Mount View Mustang to qualify for the state championships that I can remember in my 29 years at Mount View.”

“I am very proud of Cassidy's efforts and dedication this entire season,” he said. “She played all summer to get ready for the season, and the time that she put in certainly paid off. In addition to qualifying for the state Class B girls championship, her score has been used in three of our four team wins. She played from the same (white) tees as the boys in all of our regular-season matches, as well.”

Lincoln Academy's Bailey Plourde (81) and Natalie Whitney (102), along with Erskine Academy's Ashley Chubbuck (91), also qualified in Class B; while Oxford Hills' Briana Morris (85) qualified for Class A, from the RGC event.
