The Searsport boys soccer team earned its first win of the season over Islesboro Sept. 17, so the Vikings were more than happy to take the 15-minute ferry boat ride across Penobscot Bay Saturday, Oct. 12 to face the islanders in an early-morning high school pitch contest.

The Eagles, a coed team, did not make it easy on the Vikings, but the visitors eventually eked out a 3-2 win in double-overtime over Islesboro.

Jay Burkard scored the game-winner for Searsport, while Barrett Grant scored a pair of goals in regulation for the Vikings.

Sage Kelly and Jack Pellagrino scored for Islesboro (4-8).

Troy Reynolds and Bryce Shorey turned away 6-of-10 shots in goal for Searsport, while Ian Davis made 16 saves on 20 shots in net for Islesboro.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Western Class D, Searsport (2-10, 10.8418 points) is 10, while Chop Point of Woolwich (8-1, 71.7532 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

The score of Saturday's game between Islesboro and Searsport has yet to be reported to the Heal Point site.
