A Northport woman was treated for a head wound after a man who was at her home allegedly struck her in the head and threatened to kill her Friday night, Oct. 4.

Michael Cunningham, 46, of Northport, was arrested on charges of domestic violence terrorizing and domestic violence assault after the alleged victim called and requested an ambulance at her Beech Hill Road residence at about 9:20 p.m.

"The victim called and said she needed an ambulance. She said she was bleeding from the head and that the perpetrator was currently passed out," said Lt. Jason Trundy with the Waldo County Sheriff's Office.

Trundy said the woman told police she was unsure whether Cunningham struck her with an object or a closed fist, but Trundy said the impact "split her head open."

Trundy said further investigation at the scene revealed Cunningham was upset with the woman over cell phone minutes that were used without his knowledge, and that Cunningham was intoxicated at the time of the altercation.

During the argument, Trundy said Cunningham assaulted the woman, threatened her life and would not let her leave the home.

Trundy said the woman did obtain medical treatment for her injury.

As of Friday morning, Oct. 11, Trundy said Cunningham remained in custody at Waldo County Jail.

Cunningham is scheduled to appear at Fifth District Court in Belfast Tuesday, Nov. 5.
