Marlene C. Merando, 68, died Oct. 13 after a life long fight with Crohn’s Disease.

She was born Jan. 16, 1945, in Belfast to Donald and Glenice Harriman.

She is survived by her brothers Dale and Bruce Harriman, Bill, Bob and Howard Smith and their spouses; one sister Glenice (Sue) Lear; a daughter Carole and her husband Barry Littlefield and their children Cody and Dominique; a son Matthew, his wife Stepheny Merando and their children Austin, Makita and Chandler; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and special friend Cindy Gross.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Verna Taylor, her mother Glenice Stairs, her step-father Wendell Stairs, great aunt Vida Flick, uncle Clayton Taylor and nephew Bill Smith III.

Her interests included gardening, crafting, sewing, collecting anything that was “Santa” related and going to yard sales. She could never pass up a bargain.

She did not want a traditional funeral service, so instead her life will be celebrated with a gathering at the Grange Hall in Morrill on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. All are welcome.

The family thanks Penobscot Nursing Home for the excellent care they gave her for the past two plus years and all of the staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center for the care and compassion they showed her family members over the past few days. A special thanks to her nurse, Kim who made this trying time so much easier for the family.
