Donald Edwin Flanders, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 17, at his home in Belfast. Born in Belfast on Oct. 21, 1927, he was the son of Arthur E. and Bertha (Nickerson) Flanders and was a graduate of Crosby High School Class of 1950. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948.

While residing in Massachusetts, he worked as assistant manager for 20 years at Scubes Market in Marblehead and also owned and operated his own cleaning business. He later moved to Belfast and worked as a housing inspector for the Farmer’s Home Administration retiring in the late 1980’s. His hobbies included playing classical guitar and violin and he was an avid New England Patriots fan.

The Flanders family would like to extend their thanks to all of his caregivers including Dianna and Louie.

Surviving are his children Janna L. Swift, of Belfast; Steven D. Flanders and his wife Cheryl, of Ellsworth; Rebecca A. Madison, of Berwick; Judith Morse and her husband Harold, of Belmont; many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his former wife, Frances S. Spear Flanders; brothers and sisters Eunice Brok Corey; Esther Brock Bryant; Joseph “Buddy” Broch; Carroll Flanders; and Joyce Flanders.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 21, at Grove Cemetery in Belfast. If desired, memorial gifts may be made in his memory to Waldo County General Hospital Hospice, P.O.
