Jason from Friday The 13th, a mime, a batgirl and zombie with fire orange hair were just a few of the ghoulish runners and walkers who participated in the fifth annual "Scare Me" 5-kilometer road race on Saturday morning, Oct. 19 in the south end of the city.

The event centered around the Trackside Station Restaurant on Pleasant Street.

The first overall runner was Jerry Goldstein, 56, of Northport, who finished in 18:37. The first female finisher was Rebecca Miller, 34, of Saco in 21:16. Miller was seventh overall.

The event, under cool, sunny, 45-degree temperatures, attracted 32 runners and three walkers.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the “Go Malawi!” runners' program. Funds raised will be used to send orphaned children from Malawi, Africa, served by Union native Janet Littlefield, to school.
