Goals were at a premium on Friday, Oct. 18 in soccer games between Winslow and Mount View, with only one goal needed in each contest to cement a winner.

That, as it turned out, was bad news for Mustang fans.

The Black Raiders prevailed in a pair of 1-0 contests, with the Mustang boys falling in Thorndike and the Mustang girls falling in Winslow.

The following is a recap of both contests:

Boys soccer

Winslow 1, Mount View 0

At Thorndike Oct. 18, the Black Raiders benefited from a first-half penalty kick, which was all undefeated Winslow needed in a shutout over the Mustangs.

Taylor Roy buried the penalty kick for Winslow.

Mikey Hustus made seven saves in goal for the Mustangs, while Alex Berard made five saves in goal for Winslow. Winslow outshot Mount View 15-9.

Girls soccer

Winslow 1, Mount View 0

At Winslow Oct. 18, the Black Raiders had only one goal, which proved enough in the win over the Mustangs.

Autumn Poulin netted a first-half goal for Winslow.

Tori Strain made 10 saves on 16 shots in net for Mount View, while Kiana Richards made three saves on five shots in goal for Winslow.

The Mustangs nearly tied the game late in the second half with a shot that hit the crossbar and fell in front of the goal, but the ball was cleared by the Black Raider defense.
