An Augusta man was arrested after tackling his girlfriend and assaulting another man Saturday evening, police said.

Belfast Police Chief Mike McFadden said Alan Green, 43, of Augusta, was arrested Saturday, Oct. 26, after he became upset when he saw his girlfriend walking on Cedar Street in Belfast with another man at about 7 p.m.

Green chased the girlfriend before tackling her to the ground, injuring her hand, McFadden said. When the man who was walking with the girlfriend attempted to intervene, Green punched him in the face and the two began trading punches for a short period of time, McFadden said.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the girlfriend who showed them her hand, which was swollen and bruised. Green cooperated with officers and was taken into custody before being taken to the Waldo County Jail.

Green was charged with domestic violence assault and assault, McFadden said.
