A Belfast man found himself on the wrong side of the law after arguing with his girlfriend and punching a window out of her car.

Belfast Police Chief Mike McFadden said Jonathan R. Littlefield, 33, of Belfast, started arguing with his girlfriend Saturday, Oct. 26, around 4:20 p.m. after she arrived home. The girlfriend took her son and attempted to leave when Littlefield followed her into a parking lot and continued to yell and threaten her.

McFadden said after the girlfriend got into her vehicle, Littlefield punched out the driver's side window, broke off a side view mirror and kicked the vehicle, which upset the girlfriend's child. The girlfriend then took her child to her sister, who lived nearby, before returning to clean up the broken glass and report the incident to police, McFadden said.

When officers spoke to Littlfield, he corroborated the story told to police by his girlfriend before reportedly telling the officers his girlfriend “would be sorry she involved the police,” McFadden said.

Littlefield was arrested and taken to the Waldo County Jail on charges of terrorizing and criminal mischief, McFadden said.
