Firefighters were on scene at a small gas spill at the Sunoco station on Route 1 in Searsport early Friday morning, Nov. 1.

Crew responded around 6:30 a.m., said Searsport Fire Chief Andy Webster at the scene. The crews deployed containment booms and used a bobcat with a sweeper attachment to clear the area, which was experiencing heavy rain at the time.

Webster estimated around 20 gallons of fuel spilled.

Maine Department of Environmental Protection and a Hazmat unit also responded. Webster said Clean Harbors would be clearing the scene sometime Friday morning.

As of Nov. 5 it has not been determined what caused the initial spill, but Webster said there were no injuries as a result.
