It has been said there is no such thing as a free lunch, but that was not the case for all the local veterans who turned out for a meal that was cooked up in their honor Sunday, Nov. 10.

The party took place at the Northport Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 6131 on Route 1, where vehicles with veteran license plates filled the yard outside. Inside the hall, the Lincolnville Band played several old favorites under the direction of Pat Munson prior to the start of the sit-down meal, which the VFW post offers to all veterans, free of charge.

In the kitchen, volunteers including Betty Farris, Janet Lyle and Marilyn Leathers prepared the food with a cheerful haste, and in the hall, local veterans stood and sang along with the songs the band played for their entertainment.
