An 18-year-old Belfast man earned a theft charge after police say he attempted to steal trading cards and action figures from a local drug store Monday, Nov. 11.

Robert F. McKinney Jr., 18, of Belfast was summoned for theft by unauthorized taking after police responded to a complaint about a possible shoplifter at Walgreen's.

Belfast Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said further investigation into the incident revealed McKinney had taken items such as Topps Football Trading Cards and National Football League collectible action figures into the mens room and was removing the exterior packaging on the items. Cunningham said police believe McKinney was doing so in an attempt to remove any anti-theft devices.

McKinney also had a juvenile accomplice with him at the time of the incident.

Cunningham said the total value of the items McKinney had in his possession was $102.97.
