The annual Thomas F. Chester Frozen 5-Kilometer Road Race will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Point Lookout Resort and Conference Center during the Pen Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce Christmas by the Sea weekend.

Racers should check in by 9 a.m. The course will start at the bottom of the mountain and wind through the resort complex to the summit before it turns and heads back to the base of the resort

The cost is $10 to walk, $15 to run and $25 for a family or company team.

Fifty-plus runners participated last year. There are prizes for winners. The first group of entrants will receive a t-shirt. There will be cookie decorating for children and Santa will make an appearance.

West Bay Rotary Club of Camden organizes the race, which is sponsored by Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors, Allen Insurance and Financial, Midcoast Home Rentals, Global Packing and Shipping, Point Lookout, Leonard’s, Alex Cohen of Camden Real Estate, Commonwealth Cares Foundation and Camden Accommodations

The race, in memory of Thomas F. Chester, will benefit Augie’s Quest, an ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) charity. A runner in high school, “Big Tom” lost his battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in June of 2009.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, eventually leading to death. There is no cure for the disease and there is no recovery from it.
