Police arrested a Whitefield man for driving drunk after he crashed his truck into a barn in Palermo over the weekend.

Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff's Office said officers arrested Jon Wade, 33, of Whitefield for operating under the influence and operating after suspension following a single-vehicle crash at 2:06 p.m. on Hostile Valley Road Saturday, Nov. 16.

Trafton said Wade struck the corner of a barn, which did significant damage to the building and to his vehicle. Witnesses told officers that prior to the police arriving, Wade was throwing empty beer bottles down an embankment and he attempted to hide a six-pack of beer behind the barn doors.

Wade refused medical treatment at the scene and was taken to the sheriff's office where he was given an Intoxilyzer test. Trafton said the test determined Wade had a blood alcohol content of .20.

Trafton said Wade had two prior OUI charges, according to his arrest report.
