The following is a synopsis of the 2013-14 Mount View High School girls basketball team:

Coach/years coached current team: Erica Gabbianelli, fourth year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 3-15, 18th in Eastern Class B. The Mustangs failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Roster: Seniors Morgan Clifford (5-foot 4-inch guard), Courtney Morse (5-2 guard) and Stephanie Stilkey (5-8 forward); juniors Tori Strain (5-10 center), Austyn Thomas (5-9 forward) and Brooke Tripp (5-10 forward); sophomores Megan Elkins (5-5 guard), Jenni Nadeau (5-7 guard/forward), Meredith Picard (5-4 guard) and Ashley Spaulding (5-8 forward); and freshmen Vanessa Grotton (5-7 forward), Halle Reynolds (5-7 guard/forward) and Aleesha Spaulding (5-4 guard).

Known graduation losses: Kaitlyn Leavitt, Janelle Thornley, Alexis Morse and Coleen Schofield.

Significant impact players: Morse and Tripp.

Team strengths: Strong core of young players.

Team goals: To improve and get better with every game.

Top league opponent: Nokomis of Newport.

Outlook: The Mustangs return a pair of talented players in Morse and Tripp, whom Gabbianelli hopes will help guide the team as the season rolls along.

“I'll be looking to both of those players to step up and lead our younger kids,” the coach said. “Scoring may still be a challenge for us this year, but we are hoping to make up for this with our defense.”
